We’ve taken the time to put some words together on “your” day.
We wanted to start off saying that we’re sorry. We never meant to harm you. Everything we’ve done has been out of ignorance, and although that’s no excuse, we think we’re just a product of our society.
We know writing these words on Earth Day is a bit hypocritical, but we wanted to use the spotlight of the moment to try and get our message across. We’ve always tried to treat sustainability and the climate crisis with complete honesty and transparency. We’re not an example, we’ve said it before. We’re currently learning about our impact, and trying to find the best way of improving in a way which is compatible with our business model. We’re not here to wish a Happy Earth Day, we actually think the day in itself has for some become a Marketing opportunity, and we won’t be the ones to judge, but we need to make the Earth an issue 365 days a year. That’s why our first step is to write this letter and wish you an Unhappy Earth Day.
We’re not unhappy, but we just want to demand more from ourselves. We know we can do better, and we don’t want this to sound like we’re torturing ourselves, it’s not the case. As you may have already read on our website, we’ve committed to reducing our impact by 50% from here to 2023. A big part of the negative influence we have on the Earth comes from CO2 emissions, which we generate in our production process through cow farming and the deforestation that’s produced to feed these cows. One of our missions is to stop this deforestation, and we’re seeking ways of doing this on a regular basis. For the time being, and knowing that it may not be enough but every little counts, we will be donating 500€ to Plantalo, an Association which works fiercely against deforestation since 2014, transforming agricultural farms into forests, helping to reduce CO2 emissions. We’d love to say that this is something we could do every day, or that our donation could be of a greater amount, but it’s just not possible at the moment.
We’re still committed long-term with you, it’s how we understand all relationships, and as in all relationships, it’s not a smooth ride. We’ve just gotten through a rough patch, but we think we’re on the right path to becoming the best of lovers again.
We love you Earth.
